Goalkeeper: Bui Quang Huy (Nam Dinh)
After two consecutive successful years in the national championship/V-League, Bui Quang Huy proved the best choice for the under-23 team at the LG and Agribank Cup, and the 23rd SEA Games. The goalkeeper has made significant progress in his career. His advantages include good reflexes and handling, while his disadvantage is an unstable playing psychology.
Leftback: Pham Xuan Phu from Nam Dinh
After Hong Phu was unable to fight for a place at rightback of Mikado Nam Dinh, home spectators had a new Phu at leftback. Pham Xuan Phu showed his great ability in attacking at the Honda Cup. However, the player was not in the plan of coach Alfred Riedl.
Rightback: Phung Van Nhien from Nam Dinh
According to many experts and spectators, Phung Van Nhien should have won a place on the right flank of the under-23 team at the 23rd SEA Games but not Hai Lam. However, coach Alfred Riedl had a different opinion. Despite his failure to fight for a place in the under-23 team, Van Nhien still has another opportunity to get a place in the national team.
Centrebacks Trinh Phong Thu from LG.HN.ACB and Nguyen Hoang Thuong from Dong Tam Long An
Nguyen Hoang Thuong joined the under-23 team to compete at the 23rd SEA Games and Trinh Phong Thu was called up for the 22nd SEA Games. They were substitutes in the under-23 team but they have found their place at their clubs.
Left midfielder Nguyen Hong Nam from Hoa Phat Hanoi
Playing for such a club as Hoa Phat Hanoi, Hong Nam”s ability is always a doubt. However, the player made a significant contribution to Hoa Phat Hanoi”s survival in the V-League in 2005.
Right midfielder Chu Ngoc Canh from Hoang Anh Gia Lai
Chu Ngoc Canh can play at rightback or midfield. He has a good ability as a winger. Like Phung Van Nhien, the player is not good at defending.
Central midfielders Tran Trong Loc from Nam Dinh and Phan Van Tai Em from Dong Tam Long An
No one else is better than Phan Van Tai Em as a central midfielder after what the player showed when playing for his club Dong Tam Long An and the under-23 team. His former team mate in the under-23 team, Le Quoc Vuong, should have found a place in the squad of outstanding players, born in the Year of the Dog. However, Quoc Vuong lacked good form. Therefore, Tran Trong Loc from Nam Dinh was selected.
Forwards Phan Thanh Hoan and Nguyen Cong Manh from PJICO Song Lam Nghe An
With outstanding performances of Pham Van Quyen and Le Cong Vinh, Phan Thanh Hoan and Nguyen Cong Manh could not find places in the first team of PJICO Song Lam Nghe An. They were loaned to Hoa Phat Hanoi.
