V-League 2008 starts: The Cong make surprise

The first round of the V-League 2008 witnessed an impressive return of The Cong as they defeated Binh Duong, the defending champions in a narrow score of 1-0. Meanwhile, in the earliest match, Cong Vinh’s two goals brought  three points for TCDK Song Lam Nghe An and he also become the goal opener of V-League 2008.

A focus of the opening day of V-League 2008 was the match between The Cong and Binh Duong.

In Binh Duong, The Cong Viettel which came back to the highest national level of football after three years swimming in the First Division, gave a shock to the V-League reigning champions Becamex Binh Duong. Young players of The Cong in their best form  had an impressive performance.

The hosts had a lot of opportunities to score goal but their final shots failed to enter the net. Meanwhile, The Cong applied a tight defence to launch counter-attacks. In the 14th minute, Khanh Lam received a pass from Francois Edine and then made a wonderfull shot to give goalkeeper of Binh Duong  no chance. 

Entering the second half, Binh Duong wanted to prove their power as the defending champions by launching a series of attacks. They missed a chance to level the score however the ball just hit the column or found the hands of Czech goal keeper Michal.

By preserving the defence-attack tactic, The Cong had two more opportunities to widen the gap but 1-0 score was not changed until the last minute. The only goal of the match by Khanh Lam was a great encouragement for The Cong on the way to restore  their strength.

In other matches, forward Le Cong Vinh created for an advantage for TCDK Song Lam Nghe An in the 10th minute of a match against the visiting Khatoco Khanh Hoa, becoming the goal opener of V-League 2008. Early in the second half, he widened the score following a mistake by goal keeper Van Thach. In the 49th minute, Huu Chuong narrowed the gap however the match ended in a 2-1 victory for TCDK Song Lam Nghe An.

In Hanoi, Hoa Phat Hanoi and ACB Hanoi shared points in a derby match.

Meanwhile, the match between Hoang Anh Gia Lai and Dong Tam Long An was cancelled in the 65th minute due to the light breakdown although Minh Phuong opened the score for Dong Tam Long An in the 50th minute. The two teams have to play again next week.
