The two sides started the final with great determination but Pomina Steel Tien Giang were the side to go ahead. Seven minutes after kick off, Tan Linh headed home the opener. Striker Phuc Hiep of Pomina Steel was denied by the woodwork twices in the ninth and 12th minutes.
Hoang Anh Gia Lai equalised nine minutes after Tan Linh”s goal with forward Tang Tuan heading home near post.
However, Pomina Steel Tien Giang quickly restored their one goal lead. In the 34th minute, Phuc Hiep headed far post to make it 2-1 after a cross by Tan Linh. Four minutes later, Phuc Hiep scored his second goal to extend the lead to 3-1.
In the second half, when Pomina Steel Tien Giang played defensive football, Hoang Anh Gia Lai had opportunities to score. In the first minutes of the second half, Tang Tuan and Cong Phong made attempts but were denied by goalkeeper Van Dung.
Pomina Steel Tien Giang had a good chance with Tan Linh curling a freekick through the wall but was palmed away by goalkeeper Cong Vuong.
Van Thuan restored Hoang Anh Gia Lai”s hope as he narrowed the gap in the 78th minutes.
In the final minute, a shot by Quang Thang from Hoang Anh Gia Lai was palmed away by goalkeeper Van Dung.
Pomina Steel Tien Giang won the under-21 cup with VND 150 million as bonus. Hoang Anh Gia Lai were awarded VND 80 million.
Binh Dinh and Midako Nam Dinh shared third place and were awarded VND 30 million.
Nguyen Tang Tuan from Hoang Anh Gia Lai was the tournament”s top scorer with five goals.
Nguyen Thanh Long Giang from Pomina Steel Tien Giang was voted as the Player of the Tournament.
Goalkeeper Cong Vuong from Hoang Anh Gia Lai was the best goalkeeper.
After the final, the organisers of the under-21 football tournament announced a list of the Vietnamese under-21 team to compete in a friendly with the Thai under-20 teams.
The players were named as follows: Tran Quoc Anh, Vo Nhat Tan, Nguyen Thanh Long Giang, Nguyen Cong Minh Thien, Lu Vo Nhu Quang, Vo Cong Ton Chieu, Nguyen Thanh Hai, Nguyen Phuc Hiep, Le Tan Linh and Ma Anh Duy from Pomina Steel Tien Giang; Hoang Cong Vuong, Nguyen Tang Tuan, Ho Van Thuan, and Tran Anh Tuan from Hoang Anh Gia Lai; Tran Duc Cuong, Phan Thanh Phuc, Truong Quang Tuan and Nguyen Huu Hung from Da Nang; and Phan Quy Hoang Lam and Tran Minh Sen from Binh Dinh.
