This decision was shared by Van Quyet with head coach Kim Sang Sik and his teammates in the locker room after the match. He mentioned that although he still has a strong desire to contribute to the national team, his current physical condition does not allow him to compete at the high intensity required at the national level. He believes the team needs to provide more opportunities for the younger generation of players.

Van Quyet is one of the players who has dedicated many years to the national teams, leaving a significant mark in their colors. Throughout his international career, this two-time Golden Ball winner has scored many important goals and is one of the veteran players of the team. He has participated in several major regional and continental tournaments, helping the team win the ASEAN Championship in 2018, finish as runners-up in the 2022 ASEAN Championship, and reach the semifinals of the 2018 Asiad, creating many memorable moments for fans.

Van Quyet’s decision to conclude his international playing career will undoubtedly leave many fans feeling regretful, but he deserves understanding, empathy, and respect for his wishes.

At the press conference following the friendly match against the India national team, Coach Kim Sang Sik mentioned that Van Quyet had shared his plans to retire from international play. “It has been a while since he was called up, but he remains a player who commands great respect from many. I want to thank Van Quyet for his dedication to the national team and wish him success in his future endeavors,” said Coach Kim Sang Sik.

On the official FIFA World Cup fan page today (October 13), there was also a post featuring Van Quyet with the caption, “Class is forever…”
