VFF President Tran Quoc Tuan attends the AFF Ordinary Congress 2022
Today (November 14), the AFF Ordinary Congress 2022 was held in Siem Reap, Cambodia with the participation of delegates representing 12 member national association of AFF (including Australia). The delegation representing the VFF led by President Tran Quoc Tuan attended the congress.
The congress had the presence of guests who were representatives of the AFC and FIFA, the President of the host – Football Federation of Cambodia, the leader of the Saudi Arabian, Japan, Korea, China Football Federation and AFF’s trading partners.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, the President of the Football Federation of Cambodia, General Sao Sokha welcomed representatives of the AFF leaders to attend the AFF Congress, term 2022-2026. The President of the Football Federation of Cambodia praised the great contributions of the AFF leaders to the development of the beloved sport in the region. On the occasion of the Congress, the President of the Football Federation of Cambodia thanked the support of the East Asian Football Confederation, AFC and FIFA for football in Southeast Asia and Cambodia in particular.
The congress spent a minute in memory of the former President of the Singapore Football Association Lim Kia Tong, remembering the victims killed and injured in the incident at the Indonesian Football League last October.
After welcoming the delegates to the AFF Congress, General Khiev Sameth – AFF President thanked the member federations for their trust in AFF in general and AFF President in particular, thereby contributing the AFF tournaments to be organized more and more professionally. The AFF President emphasized that although the AFF’s last term was greatly affected by the global Covid-19 pandemic, with the efforts of member football federations and the cooperation of commercial partners, therefore, AFF has overcome the difficult period and continues to organize football activities in the region.
After approving the audited financial report, the AFF’s operation report and appointing the AFF’s operational financial audit agency, the Congress conducted the election for the term 2022-2026. General Khiev Sameth (Cambodia) is the only candidate for the position of President and has continued to receive the trust for the position of AFF’s leader for the term 2022-2026.
The Congress also elected 3 in total 4 AFF Vice Presidents for the 2022-2026 term, including: Mr. Pengiran Matusin bin Pengiran Matasan (Brunei DS), Ms. Maaike Ira Puspita (Indonesia), Mr. Francisco Martins da Costa Pereira Jeronimo (Timor Leste).
The leadership positions of AFF will be further perfected after the AFC Congress held in Bahrain in March 2023.
