U21 Việt Nam players celebrate beating U21 Myanmar 2-0 at the Thanh Niên newspaper’s International U21 Football Tournament in the southern province of Cần Thơ on December 16.
Việt Nam controlled the pace of the game since the referee blew his whistle but they couldn’t break the defense line of Myanmar.
After many attempts, Việt Nam scored their first goal in the 42nd minute, thanks to Nguyễn Hoàng Đức.
After the break, Việt Nam converted a penalty after the ball touched the Myanmar team defender’s hand.
Defender and captain, Lê Văn Sơn, completed his task of doubling the score to 2-0 for his team.
In their first game, U21 Việt Nam lost to Thailand 0-1.
Việt Nam now have three points after two matches. They are third in the rankings, behind defending champions U21 Yokohama of Japan and U21 Myanmar.
The team will next meet U19 today and Yokohama on December 20.
Five teams are competing in a round robin format, with the two best teams vying for the cup. The winner will pocket US$12,000 and the runners-up will get US$7,000 and US$5,000.
