Vietnam Team back home, finish the historic journey in FIFA World Cup 2022 Asian 3rd Qualifier
This afternoon (March 30), Vietnam Team came back home after a journey to Japan, closing the historic campagin in its first appearance in the Third Qualifiers of the FIFA World Cup 2022. General Secretary Le Hoai Anh represented VFF leaders to the airport to welcome and congratulate the whole team.
In a total of 10 matches in the third qualifying round of the FIFA World Cup 2022, Vietnam Team had a victory, 1 draw, and lost 8 matches. However, this is not a result that surprises as well as makes fans disappointed, because, in terms of strength, Vietnam is still the most underrated team in Group B, where the presence of Asia’s very strong competitors are Japan, Australia, Saudi Arabia, Oman, and China.
However, with serious preparation, progressive efforts, and the spirit of not giving up, Vietnam Team made a strong impression in the round that was only for the “elite” teams of the continent, in which the 3-1 victory over China at My Dinh National Stadium on the 1st of the Lunar New Year and the latest is a brave 1-1 draw against Japan in front of more than 40,000 spectators at Saitama Stadium. Despite receiving 8 defeats, as shared by captain Do Hung Dung, Vietnam Team always respects each match in the journey to attend the third qualifying round of the FIFA World Cup 2022 for the first time, because this is a valuable opportunity to compete with top Asian rivals in an official FIFA/AFC tournament. Each match at such a high level helps the players become much more mature, thereby also catching up with the level of world football.
At the end of the FIFA World Cup 2022 Qualifiers with a wonderful performance at Saitama Stadium, head coach Park Hang-seo and players temporarily bid farewell to each other and continued towards the tasks awaiting ahead. According to the expected plan, Vietnam Team will gather at the end of May and the beginning of June to prepare for international friendly matches, kicking off the campaign to compete for the championship at the AFF Suzuki Cup 2022.
Head coach Park Hang-seo will be back to lead the U23 Vietnam team in the gathering scheduled which starts on April 7 to prepare for the 31st SEA Games.
