Vietnam’s futsal national team set to trim squad list, ready for training camp in Kuwait

In recent weeks, the Vietnam futsal national team has been training intensively at the Chanh Hung Futsal Club Arena in Ho Chi Minh City in preparation for the 2026 AFC Futsal Asian Cup qualifiers. Today (September 5), the team played a friendly match against Sahako Club as a final review and assessment of the squad before heading to Kuwait for a training camp.

Head coach Diego Giustozzi said: “Up to this point, I am very satisfied with the intensity of training and the professionalism of the players. The team has been working at high volume, practicing a variety of tactical options to prepare for opponents in the 2026 Asian qualifiers such as Hong Kong (China), China, and Lebanon, who can all play at different tempos.”

The Argentine strategist added: “Before this training camp, I wanted to give opportunities to some new faces. However, each week we organized internal matches to evaluate the players’ performances. At this stage, some have not met the professional requirements or have suffered injuries, so I plan to reduce the squad to 16 players.”

According to the plan, the Vietnam futsal national team will continue training in Ho Chi Minh City before departing for a training camp in Kuwait from September 9 to 14. During the camp, the team will play two friendly matches against the Kuwait national futsal team on September 11 and 13. After that, the squad will travel to China to officially compete in the 2026 AFC Futsal Asian Cup qualifiers.

Assessing the significance of this training camp, head coach Diego Giustozzi emphasized: “The two friendlies against Kuwait will be different in nature from the matches at the Asian qualifiers, but they will be a valuable opportunity for key players such as Duc Hoa and Ngoc Linh, who have just returned from injury, to regain their international match rhythm. At the same time, the games will also help other players accumulate more experience.”

At the 2026 AFC Futsal Asian Cup qualifiers, Vietnam has been drawn into Group E alongside Lebanon, China, and Hong Kong (China). According to the schedule, coach Diego Giustozzi’s side will face Hong Kong (China) on September 20, China on September 22, and Lebanon on September 24.
