Nguyen Trong Hy was re-elected as president of the Viet Nam Football Federation (VFF) for a second term lasting until 2013 on October 15. In the meeting session, the new 23-member VFF executive board was also chosen, replacing the old board consisting of 39 members. With a fewer number of board members, it is hoped the board will restructure the VFF to make it more effective.

The meeting session welcomed Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan and general secretary of the Asian Football Federation (AFC) Alex Soosay.

Nhan highly appreciated Vietnamese football’s development in recent years both in advanced football and amateur football.

“Vietnamese football gained many achievements in the Southeast Asian region, and it contributed positively into the development of regional football.

“The country’s football is gradually professionalised. With amateur football, professionalism is indispensable,” he said.

Speaking at the meeting, Soosay confirmed that AFC is very satisfied with the progression of Viet Nam football including men and women’s football, futsal, youth football, and as well as training work for referees and coaches.

Soosay also thanked Viet Nam government’s support for its great interest in football.
