Winning Myanmar after the penalty, Vietnam futsal team win a place in the AFC Futsal Asian Cup
Vietnam took the third spot in the competition this year after beating Myanmar 4-1 in the penalty shootout to also win a place in the AFC Futsal Asian Cup in Kuwait later in September.
With the result in the group stage, it is not surprising that the Myanmar team continued to choose counter-attacking tactics in the third prize match, the match that decided the chance to attend the 2022 AFC Futsal Asian Cup.
Facing the opponent’s tactics, the Vietnamese team created an overwhelming match. Although facing many difficulties in breaking through that defensive, head coach Pham Minh Giang’s team also had many dangerous shots towards Myanmar’s goal. However, in an unlucky and inaccurate round when “bombing”, Vietnam Team was unable to break the deadlock. In particular, Quoc Nam and Thinh Phat twice hit the post of the Myanmar goal. On the other hand, Myanmar only had one dangerous shot in the first half of the match.
During the break, head coach Pham Minh Giang made tactical adjustments, so that the Vietnamese team entered the game better in the second half. However, it was not until the 29th minute that Vietnam Team got a goal from Pivo Thinh Phat. From the situation of launching the attack of goalkeeper Ho Van Y, Phat controlled and launched a volley with his right foot, surprising the defender and the opponent’s goalkeeper, opening the score 1- 0.
After the goal, Myanmar tried to find an equalizer but did not create a dangerous opportunity. The opponent decided to use the powerplay strategy from the 37th minute. The defense of Vietnam Team keep firm until the 40th minute, but when the match had 38 seconds left, Myanmar Team had an equalizer after Khin Zin Oo’s cross corner and led the game into a dramatic penalty shootout.
In this series of brainstorming matches, goalkeeper Ho Van Y continued to affirm the talent of Vietnam’s Golden Futsal Ball when he successfully blocked Myanmar’s 2 consecutive kicks. On the Vietnamese side, captains Van Vu, Duc Hoa, Dinh Hung and Minh Tri respectively successfully performed penalties, helping Vietnam to win a place in the AFC Futsal Asian Cup in Kuwait later in September.
