As many as 23 players have been called up to prepare for the second qualifying round of the 2008 Asia Football Championship.
The first phase of training is scheduled from January 6 to the traditional Lunar New Year Festival (Tet), which falls on February 7. They will gather again on February 11 for the second training and will begin the competitions in early March.
The team is formed with 30 members including Chinese coach Chen Yun Fat together with his assistants Bui Thi Hien Luong, Vu Ba Dong, Tran Ngoc Thai Tuan and Nguyen Manh Son.
The second qualifying round will take place on March 1-9. Vietnam will compete with Myanmar, Taiwan and Iran in group B while group B comprises Thailand, the Republic of Korea, Malaysia and the Philippines.
All the teams will compete in the round robin format. Group winners and first runners-up will qualify for the final round and will then compete with China, Australia, the Democratic People”s Republic of Korea and Japan who are exempt from qualifying rounds.
