The 2026 National Women’s U16 Football Championship features four teams: Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Phong Phu Ha Nam, and hosts Son La. As an annual competition, the tournament plays an important role in Vietnam’s national youth football system, serving as a platform to assess the quality of youth development programmes while providing promising young players with valuable competitive experience. It also contributes to the long-term development of talent for Vietnam’s youth national teams and the senior women’s national team.

In his opening remarks, Ha Trung Chien, Member of the Son La Provincial Party Standing Committee and Permanent Vice Chairman of the Son La Provincial People’s Committee, said that it was a great honour for Son La to be selected by the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) as the host of the tournament. He also highlighted the province’s ongoing efforts to develop women’s football and invest in sports infrastructure capable of staging national competitions.

Ha Trung Chien extended a warm welcome to the distinguished guests, the Organising Committee, match officials, coaches, and players from the four participating teams. He expressed his hope that all teams would compete with determination and sportsmanship while leaving lasting impressions of the land and people of Son La. He also affirmed that the provincial authorities had worked closely with the VFF to ensure all necessary preparations—including competition venues, facilities, technical operations, medical services, security, and logistics—were in place to guarantee a safe and successful tournament, despite the challenging weather conditions in recent days.

With thorough preparations by the Organising Committee and the spirit of fair play, unity, and determination shown by all participating teams, the 2026 National Women’s U16 Football Championship promises to deliver exciting matches and a high standard of competition. The tournament will continue to reaffirm the vital role of Vietnam’s youth competitions in the long-term development strategy for women’s football and in nurturing the next generation of national team players.
