PVFC Song Lam Nghe An win fourth straight under-17 title

An 8-7 victory in a penalty shootout against Da Nang the final of the Ho Chi Minh City on July 1 helped PVFC Song Lam Nghe An win the under-17 football tournament for the fourth straight time.

The two side drew 0-0 after 90 minutes and had to enter penalty shoot-out.

Goalie Tran Nguyen Manh became the hero for PVFC Song Lam Nghe An, denying Tran Anh Khoa and Nguyen Van Thanh in penalty shootout, before Thai Ba Phi found the net, sealing a 8-7 victory.

Meanwhile, Da Nang”s Phung Huu Bao, who made excellent saves during the second half to keep PVFC Song Lam Nghe An”s strikers at the bay, could save only Nguyen Canh Duong”s penalty shot.

It was PVFC Song Lam Nghe An who dominated the game from kick-off. However, they failed to crack Da Nang stubborn defence. 

After the break, Da Nang shifted from counter–attack to offensive and gaps were exposed in the defence. Within two minutes, from 50th to 52nd, PVFC Song Lam Nghe An had two opportunities with Ngoc Son and Van Thanh breaking through and finishing from close range, but Huu Bao made two excellent saves to deny PVFC Song Lam Nghe An”s players.

At the other end, Anh Khoa”s freekick forced a flying save from Nguyen Manh, who turned the ball around the post.      

PVFC Song Lam Nghe An continued dominate the game and they were unlucky when The Cuong powered a strike, which hit the post on 67 minutes.

In the closing minutes, The Cuong wasted another opportunity when his finish failed to beat Huu Bao.

Earlier, PVFC Song Lam Nghe An found Da Nang”s net but the goal was disallowed as their player was flagged by the lineman.

The final score was 0-0 after 90 minutes and PVFC Song Lam Nghe An won 8-7 in shootout to won the title for the fourth straight time. It was their under-17 sixth titles.

PVFC Song Lam Nghe An failed to beat Da Nang in their group meeting, which ended 1-1.

Runners-up: Da Nang, VND 50 million

Third-placed: Quang Ninh and VST. Nghe An, VND 30 million each
