Vietnam U15 concluded the group stage of the FIFA U15 World Cup & Festival 2026 with a 2-1 victory over Guyana U15 in their final Group R match, played on the evening of 26 October (Vietnam time) in Azerbaijan. The result saw head coach Hoang Anh Tuan’s side finish third in Group R and qualify for Tier C in the next stage of the competition.
Vietnam U15 made a positive start and quickly took control with two consecutive goals. In the 4th minute, Khac Hieu opened the scoring for the red-shirted side. Three minutes later, Phuoc An produced a fine backheel finish to double Vietnam’s lead.
Guyana U15 pushed forward in search of a response and pulled one goal back in the 15th minute, when Jadan converted a penalty. Vietnam U15 then came under pressure for the remainder of the match but remained focused and disciplined to protect their advantage and secure a 2-1 victory.
After five matches in Group R, Vietnam U15 finished with three wins and two defeats. They had previously lost 3-6 to Bosnia and Herzegovina U15, before recording victories over Brunei U15 (6-0) and Mauritius U15 (4-1), followed by a 3-4 defeat to Iran U15. These matches provided the young players with valuable experience and opportunities to improve their performance with each outing.
Under the format of the FIFA U15 World Cup & Festival 2026, teams’ rankings in the qualifying stage determine the tiers in which they compete in the next phase. Teams are placed in the corresponding tiers based on their rankings before continuing through a knockout format to determine the final standings. All teams will remain in competition until the final day, providing further opportunities for international match experience.
Having secured a place in Tier C, Vietnam U15 will continue their campaign in Azerbaijan, aiming to improve their technical abilities, build resilience and develop their game understanding in an international football environment.
The FIFA U15 World Cup & Festival 2026 is the first edition of a FIFA-organised competition for the U15 age group, featuring an eight-a-side format. Beyond competition, the tournament aims to support the all-round development of young players, encourage creativity and decision-making, and provide emerging talents with opportunities to gain international football experience.
