U15 Vietnam beat hosts Azerbaijan 4-2 to reach final of Tier C Placement Competition
Vietnam U15 defeated hosts Azerbaijan U15 4-2 to book their place in the final of the Tier C placement competition for positions 81–84 at the FIFA U15 World Cup & Festival 2026. Hoang Anh Tuan’s side will face Hungary U15 in the final.
Following their 2-1 victory over Cuba U15 in the quarter-finals, Vietnam U15 faced hosts Azerbaijan U15 with the aim of securing a place in the final. Despite the home side’s advantage and their emphatic 5-0 win over Mozambique U15 in the previous round, the Vietnamese players made a confident start and quickly took control of the match.
Vietnam U15 got off to a flying start, with Xuan Vinh opening the scoring just 50 seconds into the game. Two minutes later, from a corner delivered by Xuan Vinh, Azerbaijan’s defence struggled to clear the ball, allowing Van Tai to make two consecutive attempts and double the visitors’ lead.
In the 16th minute, Van Tai continued to make his mark, setting up Xuan Vinh, who controlled the ball neatly before firing a precise left-footed shot to make it 3-0. Having established a commanding advantage, Vietnam U15 slowed the tempo, while the hosts pushed forward in search of a response. In the 18th minute, Mammadzada pulled one back for Azerbaijan U15.
After the break, the hosts continued to increase the pressure and scored their second goal in the 30th minute, when Alizada capitalised on a misplaced pass by Vietnam U15. Despite the pressure in the closing stages, the Vietnamese players remained focused and made the most of a counter-attacking opportunity, with Van Tai scoring to seal a 4-2 victory.
With this result, Vietnam U15 will face Hungary U15 in the final of the Tier C placement competition for positions 81–84, scheduled for 14:30 on 30 October (Vietnam time). The match offers the young Vietnamese players an opportunity to conclude their campaign at the FIFA U15 World Cup & Festival 2026 on a positive note while gaining further international match experience.
