National Women’s Cup 2026: Thai Nguyen T&T Claim Third Place
A narrow victory over Phong Phu Ha Nam helped Thai Nguyen T&T secure the bronze medal at the 2026 National Women’s Cup.
The third-place playoff featured Thai Nguyen T&T against Phong Phu Ha Nam. The recent hot weather conditions in northern Vietnam had a considerable impact on the quality of the match. Both teams were unable to maintain high-intensity attacking play continuously in order to avoid excessive physical exhaustion.
Considered the underdogs, Phong Phu Ha Nam adopted a deep defensive setup and closely marked their opponents. National team player Tran Thi Duyen demonstrated her leadership by organizing the backline and applying tight marking, making life difficult for Thai Nguyen T&T. However, their counterattacking efforts failed to produce the desired effectiveness.
At the other hand, Thai Nguyen T&T relied heavily on My Anh’s attacking support and the creativity of Bich Thuy. Their best chance of the first half came from Rebecca, whose shot struck the crossbar. The opening 45 minutes ended without any goals.
The breakthrough came early in the second half through an individual moment of brilliance. In the 49th minute, Bich Thuy showcased excellent dribbling skills to beat three defenders before delivering a pass for Ngoc Minh Chuyen, who finished accurately to open the scoring for Thai Nguyen T&T.
Trailing by a goal, Phong Phu Ha Nam pushed forward in search of an equalizer but struggled to break through. Thai Nguyen T&T’s defense remained composed and successfully preserved their slim 1-0 advantage, sealing third place in the 2026 National Women’s Cup.
