National Women’s Cup 2026: Ho Chi Minh City Successfully Defend Title
A penalty shootout victory over Hanoi I helped Ho Chi Minh City successfully defend their title at the 2026 National Women’s Cup.
The final of the 2026 National Women’s Cup featured a highly anticipated clash between Hanoi I and Ho Chi Minh City. Hanoi I were without Pham Hai Yen due to injury, while Ho Chi Minh City fielded a strong lineup featuring key players such as Huynh Nhu, Gabriel, and Thu Xuan. However, after the opening whistle, it was Hanoi I who made the brighter start.
Despite facing the defending champions, Hanoi I played with confidence, building attacks and combining effectively in midfield. Ho Chi Minh City opted for a more cautious approach, staying defensively compact while waiting for opportunities through counterattacks and set pieces.
During the first half, Ho Chi Minh City’s most notable chance came from Tran Thi Thu Xuan, whose free-kick struck the crossbar. Thu Xuan had recently won a gold medal at the 33rd SEA Games in futsal. Meanwhile, Hanoi I were left to rue missed opportunities created by Bui Thi Thuong and her teammates.
In the second half, Hanoi I continued to apply significant pressure in Ho Chi Minh City’s half. Credit must be given to Ngan Thi Van Su, whose efforts in midfield helped the capital side maintain a clear advantage. Even foreign player Gabriel was unable to change the flow of the match for Ho Chi Minh City. However, Hanoi I’s attacking line lacked the finishing efficiency needed to convert their dominance into goals.
After 90 minutes ended goalless, the two teams entered a dramatic penalty shootout. The experience and class of Ho Chi Minh City’s World Cup players ultimately proved decisive. The team from Ho Chi Minh City defeated Hanoi I 3-0 on penalties to retain the National Women’s Cup title.
