The opening of the 2024 Women’s National Cup Football Tournament

On the afternoon of November 28th, the opening ceremony of the 2024 Women’s National Cup Football Tournament took place at Thanh Tri Stadium (Hanoi), followed by a match between Phong Phú Ha Nam FC and Ho Chi Minh City FC.

The opening ceremony was attended by Mr. Nguyễn Hồng Minh – Deputy Director of the Department of Sports and Physical Education; Mr. Nguyễn Quốc Hội – Permanent Member of the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF); Mr. Đỗ Văn Nhật – Executive Committee Member and Head of the Women’s Football Department, VFF; Mr. Trần Anh Minh – Executive Committee Member, VFF; Mr. Trần Văn Quỳnh – Executive Committee Member, VFF; Mr. Mai Đức Chung – Vice Chairman of the National Coaches Council and Head Coach of the Vietnam Women’s National Football Team; Mr. Hoàng Anh Tuấn – Member of the Referees Committee, VFF; Mr. Akira Ijiri – Expert in charge of youth women’s football at VFF; Mrs. Nguyễn Thanh Hà – Deputy General Secretary of VFF and Head of the Organizing Committee; Mr. Hà Anh Chiến – Deputy Director of Thanh Trì Center for Culture, Information, and Sports; along with representatives from several media agencies and spectators at Thanh Trì Stadium.

Speaking at the opening, on behalf of the Organizing Committee, Mrs. Nguyễn Thanh Hà – Deputy General Secretary of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) and Head of the Organizing Committee, said: “Recently, Vietnamese women’s football has achieved many impressive accomplishments: the Women’s National Team has won the SEA Games title 8 times, and for the first time, they earned a spot in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup; Ho Chi Minh City Women’s Football Club is one of the 8 teams directly qualified for the 2024 AFC Women’s Club Championship and has excellently reached the quarterfinals. Additionally, the Vietnam Football Federation is one of the 5 Asian federations selected by UEFA to participate in the UEFA/AFC Women’s Football Development Project for the 3-year period (2024-2027). We hope that these achievements will serve as motivation and provide the necessary conditions for the teams to continue striving and contributing to the development of women’s football and the national team. The VFF is confident that with the efforts in organizing, along with the thorough preparation and determination of the teams, the 2024 Women’s National Cup Football Tournament will achieve a high level of professional quality, creating an exciting and dynamic competition with a spirit of fair play. On behalf of the Organizing Committee, I would like to express our sincere thanks for the active support of the Thanh Trì Center for Culture, Information, and Sports, and the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center in hosting the tournament. The 2024 Women’s National Cup Football Tournament will take place from November 28th to December 13th, 2024, at Thanh Trì Stadium (Hanoi) and the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center, with the participation of 7 teams: reigning champions Than KSVN, defending runners-up Hanoi I, Phong Phú Ha Nam, Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi II, Thai Nguyen T&T, and Son La. According to the draw, Group A consists of 4 teams: Hanoi I, Phong Phú Ha Nam, Ho Chi Minh City, and Son La; Group B will feature 3 teams: Than KSVN, Hanoi II, and Thai Nguyen T&T. The teams in each group will play a round-robin format at the stadiums of the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center and Thanh Trì, earning points for ranking. The top two teams from each group will advance to compete for the championship, second place, third place, and fourth place. The remaining three teams will play in a round-robin format to determine the fifth, sixth, and seventh positions.

Starting from the 2023 season, to encourage the teams and motivate the players to contribute more, the organizers have increased the prize money for the tournament. The champion team will receive 200 million VND; the runner-up team will get 150 million VND; the third-place team will receive 100 million VND; and the team that wins the Fair Play award will be awarded 50 million VND. The best player, top scorer, best goalkeeper, and the refereeing team that performs excellently will each receive 10 million VND.

To bring the tournament closer to the fans, the organizers plan to stream 6 group stage matches and all matches in the semifinals, third-place playoff, and final on the VFF Channel’s YouTube.

On the opening day, Hanoi I and Phong Phú Ha Nam both had successful starts, with Hanoi I winning 4-0 against Son La and Phong Phú Ha Nam securing a 1-0 victory over Ho Chi Minh City.
