The General Secretary of the Vietnam Football Federation, Duong Nghiep Khoi, chaired a meeting to implement support measures for Nam Dinh Steel Club’s participation in the AFC Champions League Two 2024/25. The meeting was attended by representatives from the Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism of Nam Dinh Province, the Nam Dinh Sports Training and Competition Center, Nam Dinh Steel Club, and representatives from the functional departments of the Vietnam Football Federation.

By winning the V.League 1-2023/24 title, Nam Dinh Steel Club has earned the honor of representing Vietnamese football in the AFC Champions League Two 2024/25. This is a significant event not only for football in Nam Dinh but also for Vietnamese football’s prestige on the continental club stage. To ensure a smooth journey for the club and to guarantee that the organization of their home matches meets the professional standards and requirements set by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), the Vietnam Football Federation has provided practical guidance and support to Nam Dinh Steel Club.

At the meeting this morning (August 8), which included representatives from the Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism of Nam Dinh Province, the Nam Dinh Sports Training and Competition Center, and Nam Dinh Steel Club, the General Secretary of the Vietnam Football Federation, Duong Nghiep Khoi, provided specific directives to the functional departments of the Federation. These directives include disseminating, guiding, and coordinating with Nam Dinh Steel Club to effectively organize their home matches in the AFC Champions League Two (ACL2) for the 2024/25 season. This includes ensuring that facilities meet AFC requirements for training and matches, appointing points of contact to assist the club’s staff with match organization, completing registration documents, addressing commercial rights as per the competition regulations, and providing guidance on medical, logistical, and immigration matters, as well as developing plans to ensure security and safety.

Nguyen Quoc Phong, the General Director of Nam Dinh Steel Club, stated that with the support of the Nam Dinh Provincial People’s Committee and relevant departments, as well as the assistance of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) and VPF Company, Nam Dinh Steel Club aims to defend their title in the V.League 1-2024/25 season and compete for honors in the AFC Champions League Two 2024/25. “Securing a place in the AFC Champions League Two 2024/25 is both a joy and a source of pride for Nam Dinh Steel Club, but it also comes with the responsibility of representing Vietnamese football on the continental stage. Therefore, in addition to thorough preparations and strengthening our team, the club is committed to successfully organizing the home matches at Thien Truong Stadium. However, as we lack extensive experience in organizing international matches according to AFC standards, support from the VFF is crucial for helping the club understand and implement the required tasks in a professional and effective manner,” Mr. Nguyen Quoc Phong said.

According to the plan, the AFC will conduct the group stage draw for the AFC Champions League Two 2024/25 on August 16. In the East Asia group, Nam Dinh Steel Club will be placed in Pot 2 alongside Port FC (Thailand), Sydney (Australia), and Selangor (Malaysia). Pot 1 will include Sanfrecce (Japan), Jeonbuk (South Korea), Zhejiang (China), and the loser of the playoff between Shandong (China) and Bangkok (Thailand). The winner of this playoff will qualify for the AFC Champions League Elite (the new name for the AFC Champions League).

Pot 3 will consist of Lee Man (Hong Kong), Kaya (Philippines), Lion City (Singapore), and Muangthong United (Thailand). Pot 4 will include Eastern (Hong Kong), Dynamic Herb Cebu (Philippines), Tampines Rovers (Singapore), and Persib Bandung (Indonesia).

The group stage of ACL2 for the 2024/25 season will commence on September 17, 2024.
