Beating Indonesia 1-0, the Vietnam futsal team secured their first three points at the 33rd SEA Games
The Vietnam men’s futsal team claimed a very important 1-0 victory over Indonesia in the second match of the men’s futsal competition at the 33rd SEA Games, held on the afternoon of December 17 at Nonthaburi Indoor Stadium, Thailand. This win earned Vietnam their first three points and reignited medal hopes for head coach Diego Giustozzi and his players at this year’s Games.
The match was tightly contested from the opening minutes, with both teams adopting a cautious approach and focusing on ball control. Goalkeeper Văn Tú delivered a solid performance between the posts, playing a key role in keeping a clean sheet for Vietnam, while Indonesia organized a compact defense and looked to capitalize on counter-attacking opportunities.
The only goal of the match came in the 11th minute from a well-rehearsed set-piece move. Minh Quang finished decisively to give Vietnam the lead, a reward for the sustained pressure applied by Coach Diego’s players for much of the game.
After taking the lead, the Vietnam futsal team continued to control the tempo, creating several attacking situations and maintaining pressure on Indonesia’s goal. However, a well-organized defense and the opposing goalkeeper’s focus prevented Vietnam from extending their advantage.
In the second half, Indonesia stepped up their attacking efforts but were unable to break through Vietnam’s solid defensive line.
This narrow victory was of great significance for Vietnam men’s futsal following a 2-4 defeat to Malaysia in their opening match. The three points gained against Indonesia have revived Vietnam’s hopes in the race for medals at the 33rd SEA Games. In this competition, five teams — Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and Myanmar — compete in a single round-robin format to determine the final standings.
