Vietnam Women’s Futsal Team return home, closing SEA Games 33 with a historic gold medal
On the afternoon of December 19, the Vietnam Women’s Futsal Team officially returned home after a successful campaign at the 33rd SEA Games, closing the tournament with a historic gold medal — the first-ever SEA Games gold for Vietnamese women’s futsal.
According to the plan, the team returned to Vietnam in two groups. The group of 17 members landed at Tan Son Nhat International Airport (Ho Chi Minh City) at 16:05, while the remaining group of four members, including head coach Nguyễn Đình Hoàng, arrived at Noi Bai International Airport at 17:50 on the same day, officially concluding a successful campaign at the 33rd SEA Games.
At this year’s tournament, the Vietnam Women’s Futsal Team demonstrated consistent form and strong composure throughout the competition. In the group stage, the team secured victories over Indonesia and Myanmar to advance to the semifinals. In the knockout round, the players under head coach Nguyễn Đình Hoàng continued to impress, defeating the Philippines to book a place in the final. In the championship match, the Vietnam Women’s Futsal Team faced Indonesia once again and claimed a convincing victory, thereby winning the prestigious gold medal.
Sharing his thoughts after the team’s success, head coach Nguyễn Đình Hoàng expressed his joy and pride: “The entire team and I are extremely happy to have won the first-ever SEA Games gold medal. This is the result of long-term preparation and the relentless effort and hard work of the players.
The players improved from match to match, overcame difficult moments, and effectively controlled and executed the team’s tactics, showing clear progress. This victory belongs to the players — they competed with great resilience, unity and confidence.
After the SEA Games, the team will take a short break before regrouping to prepare for upcoming regional tournaments and competitions in February. Despite winning the championship, the whole team still needs to continue improving and further developing our professional standards.”
After returning home, the players will head back to their localities and have around one week of rest before rejoining their clubs to compete in the 2025 National Women’s Futsal Championship, which is scheduled to kick off on December 29 in Ho Chi Minh City.
The SEA Games 33 gold medal is not only a historic milestone for Vietnamese women’s futsal but also an important source of motivation for the team to continue striving for higher goals in the future.
