Opening of the Toyota Cup 2026 National U9 Football Championship: Exciting Opening Day in Quang Ngai

This year’s tournament features 28 outstanding youth teams from across the country and will take place from 12 to 25 August. As the youngest age-group competition in the national football system, the tournament plays an important role in identifying and nurturing young football talent for the future of Vietnamese football. Notably, this marks the sixth consecutive year that Toyota Motor Vietnam has supported the tournament as its main sponsor.

Ahead of this year’s finals, the Organizing Committee has introduced a new regulation: a two-minute countdown clock during the second half, with the clock running only when the ball is in play. Accordingly, the clock will stop whenever the ball goes out of play or play is interrupted, and will resume only when play restarts. The change is expected to make matches more exciting, encourage greater initiative and minimize time-wasting by teams.

Immediately after the opening ceremony, the tournament got off to an exciting start with the opening match between hosts U9 IEC Quang Ngai and U9 Thanh Nien Ho Chi Minh City. Displaying a dominant and cohesive style of play, U9 Thanh Nien Ho Chi Minh City secured a convincing 4-1 victory to make a strong start to their campaign.

All subsequent matches of the tournament will continue to be played at the Indoor Sports Hall of IEC Quang Ngai International Education City.
