AFC Asian Cup 2023: Asian Cup group stage draw pots confirmed, Vietnam is in pot 3
The Asian Football Confederation on Wednesday confirmed the pots for the AFC Asian Cup 2023. Vietnam is in the same pot 3 with team from 13th to 18th place in Asian football ranking.
It has been confirmed that pots were assigned based on FIFA rankings and not seeding in relation to Asian Cup qualification performance.
In the same group as Vietnam so far, are Bahrain (13th in Asia), Syria (14th in Asia), Palestine (15th in Asia), Kyrgyzstan (16th in Asia) and Lebanon (18th in Asia. ). Vietnam Team is also the only representative of Southeast Asia to participate in the pot 3. The remaining Southeast Asian teams including Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia are in the pot 4.
According to the plan, after FIFA updates the rankings on April 6, AFC will officially announce the classification of 4 pots for the draw for the 2023 Asian Cup, which will be held on May 11 in Doha, Qatar.
The 24 teams participating in the 2023 Asian Cup will be divided into 6 groups of 4 teams each. The teams will compete in a round-robin format to calculate the ranking points in each group, the first and second teams in each group and the 4 third best teams in the groups will advance to the round of 16 (round of 1/8)).
The 2023 Asian Cup will take place in Qatar from January 12 to February 10, 2024. There are a total of 8 stadiums in 5 cities of Qatar proposed to be used for matches including: Lusail Stadium, Al Bayt Stadium, Khalifa International Stadium, Ahmad bin Ali Stadium, Education City Stadium, Al Thumama Stadium, Qatar Stadium University and Al Janoub Stadium.
