AFC WOMEN’S FUTSAL ASIAN CUP: Group B: Philippines 0-3 Vietnam

Hohhot: Vietnam made it two wins out of two after defeating Philippines 3-0 in their AFC Women’s Futsal Asian Cup; China 2025 Group B tie on Friday. With six points in the bag, Vietnam will be assured of a quarter-final slot should Islamic Republic of Iran defeat Hong Kong, China in the group’s later tie on Friday.

The action at the Hohhot Sports Centre came thick and fast with Philippines almost finding a way through on a fast break, with Dionesa Tolentin sending her shot over the bar following Isabella Flanigan’s through ball.
Flanigan was proving to be a thorn in Vietnam’s side with the Box Hill United forward dictating the tempo, forcing the Vietnam defence to be on high alert.
Despite being pegged in their own half, Vietnam had their moments and and a sequence in the eight minute almost produced the opener when Le Thi Thanh Ngan threaded a neat pass into the box, only for Bui Thi Trang to send her effort sailing over the bar.
Both teams continued to trade blows with Vietnam keeper Ngo Nguyen Thuy Linh producing a fine save to deny Hazel Lustan’s free-kick in the 13th minute, while Phillipines’ Samantha Hughes provided safe hands to repel Bui Thi Trang from distance.
Vietnam came within a whisker of taking the lead with two minutes left in the half after Le Thi Thanh Ngan set up Bui Thi Trang, who pulled her effort just wide off the right post.
Vietnam upped the ante in the second half and went ahead in the 22nd minute after Hughes spilled Bui Thi Trang’s effort onto the path of Trinh Nguyen Thanh Hang, who rounded the Philippine custodian and tucked the ball into the net.
Philippines came under pressure again with Bien Thi Hang drilling her effort against the left post before Hughes produced two brilliant saves to deny Le Thi Thanh Ngan and Nguyen Phuong Anh.
Despite their best efforts, Philippines fell further behind in the 33rd minute after Bien Thi Hang weaved her way through the left channel setting up Tran Thi Thu Xuan to finish with a piledriver past Hughes.
Philippines threw everything they had to get back into the game but their efforts were in vain as Vietnam scored their third goal through Le Thi Thanh Ngan’s spot-kick with seconds to spare.
