AFF U19 Championship 2024 : U19 Vietnam regrettably misses victory
In the final minutes of the game, U19 Vietnam scored a goal against Myanmar U19, but the referee disallowed the goal. This caused U19 Vietnam to lose the chance to win…
U19 Vietnam started the game with a strong determination, but Coach Hua Hien Vinh’s team faced a tough opponent. U19 Myanmar’s pressing and compact style made it difficult for U19 Vietnam’s attacking plays to progress smoothly.
In the first half, there were moments when Auang Naing’s players controlled the ball better, with their midfield playing quite confidently and fiercely contesting for possession. This made it challenging for Hua Hien Vinh’s players. U19 Myanmar organized a diverse attacking approach, utilizing speed on the flanks and combining with through balls. However, it must be acknowledged that U19 Vietnam’s defense was well-organized, limiting U19 Myanmar’s clear-cut opportunities. It wasn’t until the end of the first half that Aung Naing’s players startled the Vietnamese audience, but a shot from one of their players hit the crossbar and went out.
At the beginning of the second half, U19 Myanmar continued to control the ball better and even created clear scoring opportunities. In the 59th minute, goalkeeper Dinh Hai had to pick the ball out of the net: following an attack from the left flank, U19 Vietnam’s defenders failed to clear the ball to Phyo Sone, who easily shot into the corner, breaking the deadlock on the field. After conceding the goal, Coach Hua Hien Vinh made personnel adjustments that strengthened Vietnam U19’s performance. In the 69th minute, Quang Dung, who had just come on as a substitute five minutes earlier, found himself with the ball about 35 meters from U19 Myanmar’s goal and unexpectedly unleashed a beautiful long-range shot that “lit up the net,” equalizing the score 1-1 for U19 Vietnam.
The pace of the match intensified with back-and-forth exchanges. U19 Vietnam had moments of swift counterattacks but couldn’t convert them into goals.
Notably, in the fifth minute of stoppage time, U19 Vietnam organized a structured attack that forced goalkeeper Khant No to push the ball out. From the second line of attack, Quang Vinh fired a shot that hit the opponent’s net. However, the referee unexpectedly raised the offside flag, disallowing U19 Vietnam’s goal. Despite protests from U19 Vietnam’s coaching staff on the field, they couldn’t overturn the referee’s decision.
