Viettel found themselves trailing to Young Elephants FC of Laos six minutes into the match but a Pedro Paulo hat-trick and efforts by Hoang Minh Nguyen Duc and Manh Dung Nham saw them ultimately cruise to a 5-1 win.
Bae said he was not pleased that Viettel had conceded, blaming lack of concentration for the goal.

“Despite scoring many goals, I don’t think we played very well. We were not focused when we conceded. My goalkeeper lost his concentration and our opponents took advantage to score,” said Bae.

“However, this things can happen in football. We have had good preparation but the goal we conceded shows how important it is to remain focused. I think Viettel’s players can do better.”

The tactician, however, was glad his players responded aggressively after finding themselves trailing.

“We took back the tempo of the game. For me, the remaining minutes of this match were very important as we were able to achieve our target of starting with a win.”

Young Elephants head coach Satyasagara accepted defeat although it  has jeopardised his side’s chances of a sealing a spot in the ASEAN Zonal Semi-finals.

“I’m not happy as I didn’t think we would lose by this margin. My players performed well but I have to admit that Viettel FC are a very strong team.”

Viettel will take on Cambodia’s Phnom Penh Crown FC on Matchday Two while Young Elephants face Hougang United of Singapore.
