2024 AFF Women’s Futsal Championship: The Vietnamese women’s futsal team faces Myanmar in their opening match
On the morning of October 21, the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) conducted the draw for the scheduling of teams participating in the 2024 AFF Women’s Futsal Championship. Accordingly, the Vietnamese women’s futsal team will face the Myanmar women’s futsal team in their opening match.
The 2024 AFF Women’s Futsal Championship features the participation of five teams: Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar, Indonesia, and host nation the Philippines. The teams will compete in a single round-robin format for ranking points. The top two teams will meet in the final, while the teams finishing third and fourth will face off in the third-place playoff.
According to the schedule, the championship will take place from November 16 to 21 in the Philippines. The Vietnamese women’s futsal team will face Myanmar, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Thailand on November 17, 18, 19, and 20, respectively. The third-place match and final will be held on November 21. With such a tight schedule, the coaching staff will need to prepare thoroughly for the players, particularly in terms of fitness, to meet the demands of each match.
To prepare for the 2024 AFF Women’s Futsal Championship, the Vietnamese women’s futsal team, under the leadership of head coach Nguyễn Đình Hoàng, officially gathered in mid-October 2024 at the Futsal Club Stadium in District 8 (Ho Chi Minh City). Coach Nguyễn Đình Hoàng and his team aim to strive for a spot in the final of the regional women’s futsal competition while also looking ahead to the AFC Women’s Futsal Qualifiers in December in Thailand.
Regarding the team’s goals, head coach Đình Hoàng stated: “The entire team is focused on preparing for the AFF Championship, with a longer-term plan to get ready for the Asian qualifiers in January 2025. The coaching staff is working to refine the team’s overall play, enhance the technical skills of each athlete, improve the team’s mental toughness, and increase the intensity and pace of our game. In the upcoming Southeast Asian Championship, we aim to achieve the highest possible ranking and compete for a spot in the finals of the Asian qualifiers.”
