Coach Kim Sang-sik expressed: “First of all, as the head coach, I feel responsible and want to apologize to the Vietnamese fans who traveled a long way to Malaysia, as well as to all the supporters watching from home. In the first half, we were able to maintain the game plan, but in the second half, after both of our center-backs picked up injuries, we struggled to organize our defense and execute our playing style. This was one of the key reasons for the defeat.”

Assessing the opponent, Coach Kim Sang-sik candidly stated: “We have to acknowledge that Malaysia has significantly strengthened thanks to their naturalized players. However, football is a game where miracles can happen. If we prepare well for the return leg in Hanoi, I believe we still have a chance to make up for the four goals we conceded today.”

The Korean coach shared that the coaching staff had thoroughly analyzed the opponent, but the Malaysian players performed beyond expectations. “We faced many difficulties in coping with them. However, the whole team will draw valuable lessons from this match to better prepare for the journey ahead.”

Coach Kim Sang-sik also commented on the less-than-ideal physical condition of the players after a demanding V.League schedule. “The initial plan was to keep a clean sheet in the first half and create opportunities for attacking players like Quang Hải and Tiến Linh to make an impact in the second half. However, due to injuries in the defensive line, we were unable to execute our intended game plan.”

Sharing in the emotions of the fans, Coach Kim Sang-sik emphasized: “I fully understand the disappointment felt by both the players and the supporters. As the head coach, I take full responsibility for this result. Despite the loss, I believe the players gave their all. Football doesn’t always go according to plan, but we still have time to make things right, and we will give our utmost effort in the next match.”

Concluding the press conference, Coach Kim Sang-sik affirmed that regardless of the scoreline, a loss is still a loss, but the Vietnamese national team will not give up and is determined to bounce back stronger for the journey ahead.
