Draw for the 2025 ASEAN U16 Girl’s Championship: Vietnam placed in Group B alongside Myanmar and Cambodia
At the online draw held on the afternoon of July 21, organized by the Football Association of Indonesia – the host of the 2025 ASEAN U16 Girl’s Championship – the draw placed Vietnam in Group B alongside Myanmar and Cambodia.
Group A features host nation Indonesia, Malaysia, and Timor-Leste, while Group C is considered highly competitive with Thailand, Singapore, and Australia.
Based on the results of the most recent ASEAN U16 Girl’s Championship in 2019, Vietnam were placed in Pot 1 along with hosts Indonesia and Thailand. Pot 2 included Malaysia, Myanmar, and Singapore, while the remaining pot featured Cambodia and two debutant teams – Timor-Leste and Australia – who replaced Laos and the Philippines, both absent from this year’s tournament.
Returning after a five-year hiatus, the 2025 AFF U16 Women’s Championship continues to feature nine participating teams, maintaining the number from previous editions held in 2017, 2018, and 2019. A notable change this year is the group format: instead of two groups, the teams are now divided into three groups of three, playing in a single round-robin format. The top team from each group and the best-performing second-placed team will advance to the semi-finals. The tournament will take place in Indonesia from August 18 to August 30, 2025.
In preparation for the tournament, the Vietnam U16 Women’s National Team will officially begin training on July 23 at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center, under the guidance of head coach Okiyama Masahiko from Japan. A total of 30 players have been called up, including athletes from four localities — Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Ha Nam, and Thai Nguyen — along with two players from the Vietnam Football Federation’s youth development squad.
