Indonesia, Vietnam flex muscles with empathic wins in men’s futsal
Vietnam defeated Malaysia 7-1 in the day’s later match while Indonesia claimed their first SEA Games men’s futsal win after strolling past Myanmar 6-0 at the Ha Nam Gymnasium on Saturday.

Vietnam 7-1 Malaysia
Vietnam overcame early resistance from Malaysia before winning 7-1 to register their first win of their campaign.
The match got off to an explosive start as Malaysia took the lead in the second minute through Ekmal Shahrin but Vietnam, struck back within seconds through Nguyen Minh Tri to level the score.
However, Vietnam continued their assault on their opponent’s defence with Nguyen Thinh Phat breaking the deadlock in the fifth minute before adding his second in the 12th minute.
Vietnam continued to dominate the match, scoring two more goals though Le Quoc Nam in the 18th minute before Nguyen Manh Dung added the fifth a minute before the half-time whistle.
Malaysia held their own against the 2017 bronze medallists for the most part of the second half but could not contain Vietnam’s superiority when they conceded again with Nguyen Thinh Phat netting his hat-trick and Nguyen Minh Tri scoring the seventh.
Vietnam will face Myanmar next on Wednesday.
Indonesia 6-0 Myanmar
After coming from behind to salvage a 1-1 draw against Vietnam in their opener, Indonesia collected all three points when they scored six unanswered goals against Myanmar.
Indonesia got the ball rolling in the fifth minute when Ardiansyah Runtuboy finished off Syauqi Saud’s pass off a set-piece situation.
Both teams traded attacks in the closing stages of the first half with Indonesia goalkeeper Muhammad Albagir saving Myanmar’s Aung Zin Oo’s close-range effort, while Evan Soumilena was denied by the crossbar at the other end.
Muhammad Iqbal Rahmatullah increased Indonesia’s advantage two minutes after the restart, executing Soumilena’s lay off from outside the box before Saud made it 3-0 in the 27th minute.
Indonesia continued to bombard the Myanmar defence with Soumilena netting through a sublime free-kick in the 33rd minute before Ardiansyah Nur’s strike two minutes later. Soumilena then scored his fourth two minutes from the end.
Myanmar will look to bounce back when they face Thailand on Monday, while Indonesia will take on Malaysia.
