Facing a strong opponent as Russia but Vietnam Futsal Team still played confidently. Even lost 2-3, the Vietnam team can proud of the journey in this FIFA Futsal World Cup 2021.
RFU started on the front foot but struggled to find the back of the net against a defensive Vietnam side in the opening minutes, with Chishkala, Danil Davydov and Robinho all seeing their efforts blocked.
The Russians, who scored 17 goals for a perfect record of three wins in the group stage, continued to press the Vietnamese defence and finally found the breakthrough in the 11th minute with Andrei Afanasev setting up Robinho.
Vietnam, vying to reach the quarter-finals for the first time, came close to finding the net with efforts from Gia Hung Nhan and Dac Huy but instead, RFU extended their lead through Chishkala’s strike in the 18th minute.
Vietnam, however, immediately responded through Dac Huy’s effort to reduce the deficit with goalkeeper Ho Van Y playing his part in keeping the Southeast Asian side in the game for the remainder of the half.
RFU began the second period aggressively with Chishkala, Afanasev and Robinho causing numerous problems for Vietnam, who were reduced to counter-attacks.
The Russian side’s constant pressure paid off when Chishkala struck their third goal with 10 minutes left in the game.
Vietnam refused to give up, with Pham Duc Hoa pulling one back in the 39th minute but RFU hung on to advance to a quarter-final meeting with the winners of the Argentina-Paraguay tie.
To encourage the team with the efforts as well as the competitive spirit, VFF Executive Committee decided to award the Vietnam Futsal team 500 million. Before that, the team was also awarded 1.5 billion while completed the group stage. |
