Vietnam, Indonesia through to men’s semis; Thailand, Myanmar confirm knockout stage slots

Vietnam and Indonesia confirmed their places in the Hanoi SEA Games men’s football semi-finals after sealing top two finishes in Group A on Sunday. Thailand and Myanmar, meanwhile, continued their undefeated run in their women’s football Group B campaign to advance to the semi-finals as well.

Timor-Leste 0-2 Vietnam

Vietnam took a huge step forward in defending their SEA Games title after beating Timor-Leste 2-0.
After a goalless first half, the hosts were a different side after the break with Nguyen Van Tung and Ho Thanh Minh scoring in the 53rd and 65th minutes.

Vietnam will learn their semi-final opponents when Group B concludes on Monday after Malaysia take on Cambodia, while Laos face Thailand.
Indonesia 3-1 Myanmar

Indonesia took the lead as early as the sixth minute through Egy Maulana’s effort, before Witan Sulaeman doubled the young Garuda’s advantage four minutes later.
Marselino Ferdinan then handed Indonesia a hefty lead with his goal two minutes into first half added time.

Myanmar tried to fight back with Win Naing Tun pulling one back in the 67th minute, but Indonesia held on strongly to secure the win and a sixth consecutive appearance in the semi-finals.
