Vietnam U16 futsal team depart for the 2025 ASEAN U16 Futsal Championship

On the afternoon of December 20, the Vietnam U16 futsal team departed for Thailand to take part in the 2025 ASEAN U16 Futsal Championship — the first-ever tournament organized by the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) for the U16 age group, marking an important official platform for youth futsal in the region.

Earlier, the team gathered for a training camp starting on November 16 at Chanh Hung Futsal Hall (Ho Chi Minh City), with 20 players called up under the guidance of head coach Trinh Huu Thanh. After more than a month of intensive training, the coaching staff finalised the squad of 14 players ahead of the team’s departure, ensuring both squad stability and competitiveness for the tournament.

The 2025 ASEAN U16 Futsal Championship features five teams: host Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Myanmar and Brunei. The teams will compete in a single round-robin format to determine the top two sides advancing to the final, while the third- and fourth-placed teams will contest the third-place playoff.

According to the match schedule, the Vietnam U16 futsal team will face Indonesia at 11:30 on December 24, Myanmar at 17:30 on December 25, Thailand at 18:00 on December 26, and Brunei at 11:00 on December 27. All matches will be held at Nonthaburi Indoor Stadium in Thailand.

With thorough preparation and a clear direction, the Vietnam U16 futsal team aims to gain valuable international match experience while also affirming the potential and capability of Vietnam’s youth futsal on the regional stage.
