FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 Draw

The road to FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023 glory for Asia’s representatives was decided following the conclusion of the draw in Auckland on Saturday. Co-hosts Australia, China PR, Japan, Korea Republic, Philippines and Vietnam – with Chinese Taipei and Thailand possibly joining them in the Finals – will have to navigate a tough group stage of the first FIFA Women’s World Cup to be held in the Southern Hemisphere if they are to challenge for the title.

Australia, seeking to lift the title for the first time, were drawn in Group B with Republic of Ireland, Nigeria and Canada.

China PR, who qualified as the AFC Women’s Asian Cup India 2022™ champions, were drawn in Group D with  England, the Group B Playoff Winners and Denmark.

Japan, the 2011 champions, will play in Group C with  Spain, Costa Rica and Zambia.

Korea Republic, set to appear in their third consecutive Finals, will play in Group H with Germany, Morocco and  Colombia.

Philippines, who will be making their FIFA Women’s World Cup debut, were drawn in Group A with New Zealand, Norway and Switzerland.

Fellow debutants Vietnam will play defending champions United States in their opening Group E match with Netherlands and the Group A Playoff Winners also in the fray.

Chinese Taipei and Thailand, who advanced to the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 Playoff Tournament after finishing second and third respectively in the AFC Women’s Asian Cup India 2022™ Playoffs earlier this year, also learnt their possible opponents.

Chinese Taipei, should they advance past Group C of the Playoffs, will face France, Jamaica and Brazil in Group F of the Finals.

Chinese Taipei, seeking to qualify for the first time since their maiden appearance in 1991, will first need to see off Paraguay in their Playoff semi-final tie, before facing the winners of the Papua New Guinea-Panama match in the final.

Thailand, should they advance from the Playoffs, will appear in Group E alongside the United States, Vietnam and Netherlands.

Thailand, aiming for a third appearance in the Finals, play Cameroon in the Playoffs Group A semi-final, with Portugal awaiting in the final.
