Finished at the semi-final, Vietnam national team stood in 3rd place at AFF Suzuki Cup 2020

Competing overwhelmingly against Thailand in the semi-final second leg but failing to score a goal, Vietnam national team had to stop at the semi-finals of the AFF Suzuki Cup 2020 and received 3rd place.

Lost 0-2 in the first leg, Vietnam had to attack from the beginning of the second leg against Thailand. In the first half, the Vietnam team played over the opponent. Head coach Park Hang-seo used many players same with the second half of the first leg such as Van Duc, Duc Chinh, and especially Tan Tai.

With such a defender who has good ability to join in the attacking, Quang Hai had more advantages to play against Theerathon Bunmathan. By the good performance of Quang Hai, the Vietnam team had some sharp attacking.

Thailand suffered a key blow as Chatchai was stretchered off after picking up an injury as he raced off his line to clear the ball from an onrushing Nguyen Tien Linh, with Siwarak Tedsungnoen coming on as a 33rd-minute replacement.

His first involvement was managing to hang onto to a powerfully struck free-kick from Quang Hai in the 37th minute before it was the opposition keeper, Tran Nguyen Manh, who kept Vietnam’s hopes alive as he saved a rocket from Theerathon at his near post in the sixth minute of stoppage time with the teams going to the break locked at 0-0.

In the second half, head coach Park Hang-seo pushed more attacking power with Cong Phuong, Van Toan, Xuan Manh, and Van Xuan. However, the score was still 0-0 to the end of the game.

Vietnam couldn’t defend the championship of the AFF Cup. However, with the effort and determination spirit, the team has received encouragement from fans.
