Group B – Women’s football at SEA Games 33: Vietnam women’s team 7-0 Malaysia women: A lively start
Vietnam women’s team – the reigning SEA Games champions – had a lively start with a 7-0 victory over Malaysia and are temporarily leading Group B.
Against the weakest team in Group B, the Vietnam women’s team scored early, just in the 4th minute. From a cross by Nguyễn Thị Hoa on the right wing, the Malaysian goalkeeper was caught off guard, creating an opportunity for Hải Yến to open the score for Vietnam.
In the 22nd minute, a similar scenario occurred. Malaysian goalkeeper Ezza Ashikin misjudged the flight of the ball on a cross from Hải Linh on the left wing. Immediately, Bích Thuỳ headed the ball into the net. Five minutes later, the score was 3-0 for Vietnam: from a set-piece, Vạn Sự played a long pass into the penalty area, Hải Yến beat the offside trap, and scored with a header.
“The Golden Star female warriors” are not stopping. In the 32nd minute, from a cross on the right wing by Trúc Hương, Hải Linh volleyed to increase the score to 4-0 for her team. Before the end of the first half, the Vietnam women’s team had three consecutive chances but were unable to convert any into goals.
In the second half, coach Mai Đức Chung brought Thái Thị Thảo onto the field. Just 3 minutes later, she helped Vietnam women’s team take the lead with a score of 5-0. At the 59th minute, Thái Thị Thảo continued to score, adding her name to the scoreboard. In the 78th minute, Thái Thị Thảo completed her hat-trick.
In the last over 10 minutes, the Vietnam women’s team continued to attack in order to create a larger score difference. Unfortunately, in the 89th minute, Ngọc Minh Chuyên’s shot hit the crossbar. The 7-0 victory over Malaysia temporarily placed the Vietnam women’s team at the top of Group B, ahead of Myanmar on goal difference (Myanmar women’s team had previously beaten the Philippines 2-1).
In Group A, Thailand won 8-0 against Indonesia (played on December 4th).
