SEA Games 32: Vietnam Women’s team qualified to the semi-final
Even losing 1-2 in the match with Philippines, Vietnam Women’s team still qualified to the semi-final based on the goal different.
Vietnam Team entered the game with a spirit of determination, but all still did not forget the 0-4 loss to the Philippines women’s team at the AFF Cup 2022. Echoes of the past and the situation in Group B, so coach Mai Duc Chung’s prudence is also understandable. Unfortunately, the Vietnamese women’s team soon made mistakes in defense. After the goal, coach Mai Duc Chung raise up the squad. The Vietnamese women’s team almost controlled the game, bringing the ball closer to the opponent’s goal but could not success. The most regret situation was the situation when the ball hit the column along the goal of goalkeeper Olivia McDaniel. Realizing that the opponent’s wing had a defensive problem, coach Mai Duc Chung threw Hai Linh and My Anh on the field instead of Hoang Thi Loan and Duong Thi Van in the 31st minute.
The Vietnam women’s team played very coherently. Especially in the position of Hai Linh, she played very impressively with uncomfortable horizontal stretches. In the 39th minute, goalkeeper Olivia McDaniel of the Philippines women’s team made a mistake after coming out to catch the ball indecisively. The Vietnam women’s team decided to push forward to play offensively to regain control of the ball. Coach Mai Duc Chung’s team played quite well and created a balanced game. In the 54th minute, the referee refused an 11m ball for the Vietnam women’s team when Huynh Nhu shot the ball right into the hand of Candido Long. With nothing left to lose, the Philippine women’s team gambled all the way. In the 63rd minute, from the corner of the left wing, Calpon Bolden jumped above all to make a header, fortunately the ball went out. The pressure was increasing and from the free kick in the 81st minute, Hali Long had a header to make it 2-1 for the Philippines women’s team.
The last five minutes really dangerous for Vietnam team when the Philippines played like a storm. It’s amazing, our team stood firm and didn’t lose another goal. With a 1-2 loss result, the Vietnam women’s team and Myanmar women’s team (the team that won Malaysia 5-1) are the two teams that continue in Group A thanks to a goal difference.
In the last round of Group B, Thailand won with a score of 3-0 against Cambodia to end the group stage with the top position with 9 points. Host Cambodia is second with 6 points.
