U19 Vietnam has full squad, actively aiming for the ASEAN U19 Championship 2024
On the afternoon of July 8th, U19 Vietnam continued their training session at the Youth Football Training Center of Vietnam, actively preparing for the best readiness for the ASEAN U19 Championship 2024.
During today’s training session, U19 Vietnam reached full squad strength with players from Viettel FC and PVF-CAND completing their participation in the National Cup and the 2023/24 season play-offs. Overseas Vietnamese midfielder Ho Huu Hung, who currently plays for CU Bohemians Praha in the Czech Republic’s national championship, also joined the team after returning to Vietnam on July 6th and began training this morning according to the plan set by head coach Hua Hien Vinh. Despite still adjusting to the weather conditions and adapting his biological clock, Ho Huu Hung has shown great effort in integrating with his teammates.
In a pre-training interview, midfielder Nguyen Ngoc Chien shared that after over two weeks of training and a friendly match against U21 CAHN, the U19 Vietnam has shown improvements in both physical fitness and tactical skills. Nguyen Ngoc Chien himself feels a noticeable progression in his technical abilities. “Since joining the team, I haven’t found it too difficult to adapt to the team’s style of play. I am also adapting well to Coach Hua Hien Vinh’s tactics,” Nguyen Ngoc Chien said.
Midfielder Nguyen Ngoc Chien, who currently plays for Becamex Bình Dương FC, has been recognized as one of the standout discoveries for the U19 Vietnam following the international U19 tournament in China last June. Nguyen Ngoc Chien’s advantage lies not only in his physicality and stamina but also in his versatility, as he can perform well both as a central defender and midfielder. However, under Coach Hua Hien Vinh’s tactics, Nguyen Ngoc Chien has been deployed according to his strengths.
“I used to play as a central defender, but currently I feel most comfortable playing in midfield. I am confident in my ability to compete, even though there are other quality players in the team who play in similar positions,” Nguyen Ngoc Chien shared.
Looking ahead to the upcoming the ASEAN U19 Championship 2024, Nguyen Ngoc Chien believes that the group stage for the U19 Vietnam team is anything but straightforward, especially with strong opponents like Myanmar, Laos, and notably Australia.
“Facing strong opponents, first and foremost, we need to have a good mentality and high concentration during matches. We also need to ensure we execute well on the coaching staff’s requirements,” Nguyen Ngoc Chien remarked.
According to the plan, U19 Vietnam will maintain daily training at the Youth Football Training Center of Vietnam. Due to the lack of direct flights from Hanoi to Surabaya (the host city of the ASEAN U19 Championship 2024 in Indonesia), to minimize travel challenges, Coach Hua Hien Vinh and his team will train in Ho Chi Minh City from July 11th to July 15th. Early on the morning of July 16th, the team will depart from Ho Chi Minh City to Indonesia to participate in the ASEAN U19 Championship 2024.
