Vietnam, Indonesia stay on track for men’s football semi-finals
Vietnam and Indonesia scored crucial victories in Group A of the Hanoi SEA Games men’s football on Friday.
Myanmar 0-1 Vietnam
Vietnam, held 0-0 by Philippines on Matchday Two, returned to winning way with a narrow 1-0 victory over Myanmar as the defending champions moved to seven points from three matches.
The hosts, however, didn’t have it easy as they had to wait till the 76th minute for their only goal of the game, scored by Do Hung Dung.
Victory means Vietnam only need a point from their final group match against Timor-Leste on Sunday to book their place in the semi-finals.
Myanmar, meanwhile, will have to beat Indonesia to advance, with both teams on six points from three matches.
Philippines 0-4 Indonesia
Indonesia, silver medallists in 2019, ensured they would enter the final matchday with their fate in their own hands with a 4-0 win over Philippines.
Muhammad Ridwan opened the scoring in the 18th minute with Rizky Ramadhani doubling Indonesia’s lead a minute before the break.
Egy Maulana Vikri (74th) and a Marselino Philipus penalty five minutes from time then set Indonesia up nicely for their do-or-die clash against Myanmar on Sunday.
Group B action on Saturday will Malaysia seeking a third win on the trot against Singapore while 16-time champions Thailand face Cambodia.
