In the semifinal match against Thailand U16 Women, head coach Okiyama Masahiko continued to employ the 4-2-3-1 formation. Apart from eight out of eleven starting positions retained from the match against Myanmar U16 Women, three changes were made in the lineup with defender Nguyễn Dương Phương Nghi (No.2) and midfielders Diệp Xuân Trang (No.18) and Đỗ Thị Hà Vi (No.19) starting the game.

Assessing Thailand U16 Women prior to the match, Coach Okiyama Masahiko stated: “Thailand are a strong team with organized play and good individual skills. We analyzed them carefully to prepare in the best possible way so that our players could enter the match with confidence.”

As anticipated by the Vietnamese coaching staff, Thailand U16 Women quickly put pressure on goalkeeper Cẩm My’s goal. In just the 6th minute, the opponents launched an attack down the flank, unexpectedly sending in a cross and a shot. Goalkeeper Cẩm My managed to block the initial attempt, but Thailand capitalized on the rebound to score, taking a 1-0 lead.

After conceding an early goal, the Vietnamese players in red regrouped and organized a counterattack. In the 16th minute, amidst a scramble in front of goalkeeper Pimlapat (No.1), Aunchidtha (No.17) unexpectedly slotted the ball into the net, bringing Vietnam U16 Women an equalizer.

In the 24th minute, Monthida (No.16) was brought on. Head coach Thidarat’s substitution proved effective as the player, shortly after entering the field, combined with teammates before scoring to restore Thailand U16 Women’s lead at 2-1 in the 43rd minute.

In the closing minutes of the first half, Vietnam U16 Women lost focus, allowing Charlotte (No.14) to seize the opportunity and finish successfully, extending the score to 3-1.

At the beginning of the second half, Vietnam U16 Women made adjustments on the left wing as Trương Thị Thảo Nguyên (No.8), Hà Yến Nhi (No.5), and Ngô Hải Yến replaced Lê Thị Hồng Thái (No.17), Phan Thị Thu Phương (No.7), and Nguyễn Thị Linh Chi (No.9).

With the lineup strengthened, Vietnam U16 Women pushed forward, attempting to raise their formation and launch attacks to stretch Thailand’s defense. The players in red created several attacking combinations but lacked the finishing quality to seriously challenge goalkeeper Pimlapat (No.1).

In the 80th minute, Trịnh Yến Nhi (No.15) came on to replace Diệp Xuân Trang (No.18), reinforcing the defense as the match continued to tilt in Thailand’s favor. Despite their efforts, Vietnam U16 Women could not turn the game around and had to accept a 1-3 defeat.

With this result, Vietnam U16 Women will compete for third place against host nation Indonesia U16 Women at the 2025 AFF U16 Women’s Championship. The match will take place at 3:30 PM on August 29 at Manahan Stadium.
