Viettel FC changed the name to The Cong – Viettel FC
On November 21, 2023, at the Military Industry and Telecommunications Group (Viettel), the ceremony to announce the decision to change the name of Viettel Football Club to The Cong – Viettel Football Club was solemnly held. The Cong – Viettel FC will become the official name of the team under Viettel Group in the 2023-2024 season.

Attending the announcement ceremony were Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Nghia – Deputy Chief of General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army; Director of the Vietnam Sport Adminstration Dang Ha Viet; President of the Vietnam Football Federation Tran Quoc Tuan and leaders of Departments under the Ministry of National Defense.
The new name of The Cong – Viettel Football Club will be used in the system of domestic football tournaments in the 2023 – 2024 season. This year the team’s goal is to be in the top 3, competing for the championship in the V-League 2023 – 2024 season and reached the final of the National Cup. The club is determined to build an attractive football style that attracts viewers and reflects Viettel’s identity and soldier spirit.
Speaking at the ceremony, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Nghia emphasized: “The Cong – Viettel Football Club continues to promote the tradition and spirit of not being afraid of hardship that generations of The Cong Club have worked hard to cultivate for many years.” Build more strongly the The Cong playing style, The Cong spirit, contributing to bringing the The Cong – Viettel brand reached a new level.”
Viettel Football Club won the National First Division in 2018 and after only two years participating in Vietnam’s highest football tournament – V.League, the team excellently won the championship. Also during the above period, Viettel Club was nicknamed “descendant of The Cong” by fans.
Responding to the concern of the leaders of the Ministry of National Defense, Chairman and General Director of the Group, Mr. Tao Duc Thang affirmed, “The Cong – Viettel FC determines the goal of preserving the identity of soccer soldiers, building the club into a successful football club.” “The most successful football team in Vietnam with the mission of conquering the hearts of fans, contributing to the achievements of Military sports and being the vanguard contributing to the development of football in the country.”
