VPF actively implements the plan to apply VAR technology to matches in V.League
As part of the plan to bring video technology to assist referees (VAR technology) to apply in matches at V.League, VPF Company has organized a VAR referee training class at LAB for a period from February 20 to March 6 in Hanoi.
Attending the opening of the training class were Mr. Tran Anh Tu – VFF Vice President, Chairman of the Board of Directors of VPF Company; Mr. Nguyen Quoc Hoi – Standing member of the VFF Executive Committee, Standing Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of VPF Company; Mr. Duong Nghiep Khoi – VFF General Secretary; Mr. Nguyen Minh Ngoc – General Director of VPF Company, Head of Organizing Committee for National Professional Tournaments 2023; Mr. Dang Thanh Ha – Head of VFF Arbitration Committee with 4 instructors, 18 referees and assistant referees. The online instructor of the training class is Mr. Hakan Anaz – FIFA instructor.
According to the training program, 18 V.League referees and assistant referees will be familiar with VAR technology on the simulation system as well as trained in the steps of applying VAR technology – level 1 with simple situations, under the online guidance of FIFA instructors, along with Vietnamese Arbitration instructors.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Tran Anh Tu – VFF Vice President, Chairman of the Board of Directors of VPF Company affirmed: “VAR training is especially important for referees and assistant referees. During 14 consecutive days, referees will be familiar with VAR technology on the simulation system, as well as trained in the steps of applying VAR technology – level 1 with simple situations. After that, we will have the next stages. If we train well and pass the FIFA test, then VAR can be applied on the field. The presence of VAR in professional matches is what the VFF, VPF and especially the Arbitration Committee want.
Mr. Nguyen Minh Ngoc – General Director of VPF Company, Head of Organizing Committee for National Professional Tournaments 2023 shared: “In 2022, under the direction of the Vietnam Football Federation, VPF Company, we have restarted the VAR project in Vietnam. We have now reached the stage where VAR referees are trained in the LAB. After this period, the referees must continue to participate in the subsequent stages, based on the requirements of FIFA. Only when the referees pass the test from FIFA will Vietnamese football be eligible to operate VAR, with our expectation in the 2023/24 season. The training period is relatively long, so we recognize the efforts of the referees for the purpose of early inclusion of VAR in Vietnam matches. I hope during the V.League break for the national teams to focus, the Arbitration Committee will take advantage to complete the course according to FIFA’s regulations.”
Regarding the referees participating in the training, VFF’s head of referees Dang Thanh Ha said: “The Arbitration Committee has selected 18 referees to attend this training class, including 4 FIFA referees, 12 referees, and 2 FIFA assistants. During 14 days, the referees and assistants will familiarize themselves with the device, analyze the video in a set of 75 situations provided by FIFA. The referees will practice analysis based on video technology. For the actual matches, in addition to 4 referees on the field, in the VAR room, we need 1 Referee, 1 VAR Assistant and 1 technician.
It is known that in an effort to bring VAR technology to support referees in the V.League, from 2019, VPF contacted FIFA for advice and guidance on VAR application procedures and processes, contact Thai League for advice and guidance on VAR application procedures refer to the VAR model in Thai League. From December 2022 to May 2023, VPF company will import VAR vehicle equipment.
For VAR referee training, VPF company has completed theoretical training for 50 referees. The training class for 18 referees starting today is part of phase 2, conducted at the LAB in a centralized form from February 20 to March 6, 2023. It is expected that at the end of March or April 2023, VPF company will organize a training on the steps of applying VAR technology – level 2, complex situations 3-5 minutes long with the application of a 90-minute live match. next or pre-recorded. According to the roadmap, VAR technology will be officially put into application at the V.League season 2023/2024 after FIFA approves the implementation of all implementation steps on VAR vehicle technology and referee training process.
