Ninh Binh FC will face Ho Chi Minh City Police FC in the final
Ho Chi Minh City Police FC pulled off a major upset in the semi-finals of the LPBank Securities National Cup 2025/2026 by defeating hosts Thep Xanh Nam Dinh 4-2. In the other semi-final, Ninh Binh FC also produced an impressive 4-1 victory over title contenders The Cong Viettel.
Ho Chi Minh City Police FC traveled to Thien Truong Stadium under considerable pressure, facing an ambitious Thep Xanh Nam Dinh side on their home turf. However, coach Phung Thanh Phuong and his players produced a stunning upset, delivering a real shock to the home fans by scoring four goals in the first half alone, with more than half of them coming from aerial situations.
The opening half was an extremely efficient display from Patrik Le Giang and his teammates. Ho Chi Minh City Police FC opened the scoring in the 18th minute when Raphael capitalized on a defensive mistake by the hosts after being set up by Lee Williams. Having taken the lead while executing a well-organized defensive and counter-attacking game plan, Phung Thanh Phuong’s men grew in confidence and momentum. Matheus, Lee Williams, and Gia Bao then added further goals in the 23rd, 37th, and 44th minutes respectively, all from aerial attacks, effectively sinking the home side before the break.
Thep Xanh Nam Dinh FC mounted a strong fightback during the remainder of the second half. The hosts created several scoring opportunities but were unable to overturn the deficit. Despite their relentless efforts, coach Vu Hong Viet’s side could only manage two goals to narrow the gap against a determined Ho Chi Minh City Police FC defense.
As a result, Thep Xanh Nam Dinh saw their hopes of securing a place in the National Cup final slip away. Ho Chi Minh City Police FC advanced to the final with a surprising victory that perfectly reflected the unpredictable nature of knockout football. However, based on their impressive performance, coach Phung Thanh Phuong and his players fully deserved their place in the championship match.
At Ninh Binh Stadium, the hosts produced another shock result, cruising to a 4-1 victory over the highly ambitious The Cong Viettel FC, led by renowned cup specialist coach Velizar Popov. Ninh Binh FC, who finished third in the LPBank V.League 1, and The Cong Viettel FC, runners-up in the league, had been regarded as two of the strongest rivals in Vietnamese football during the 2025/26 season. However, the turning point came as early as the 15th minute when Gia Hung opened the scoring for the home side.
From that moment, coach Chu Dinh Nghiem’s players grew increasingly organized, confident, and effective. In the 42nd minute, Hoang Duc doubled Ninh Binh’s advantage, leaving the visitors with little response before halftime.
Known for his passionate and determined approach, coach Popov urged his team to mount a comeback in the second half. However, The Cong Viettel FC were unable to turn the match around. Lucas converted a penalty in the 84th minute to reduce the deficit to 2-1, briefly raising hopes for the visitors. Yet Ninh Binh FC responded emphatically, with Bao Toan finding the net in the 88th minute before Fred Friday sealed the result with a goal in the 90th minute, completing an emphatic 4-1 victory.
The LPBank Securities National Cup 2025/26 Final will take place at 18:00 on June 14, 2026. According to the competition schedule announced prior to the semi-finals, the final will be held at Ninh Binh Stadium, the home ground of Ninh Binh FC, following their victory over The Cong Viettel FC in the semi-final.
