– Sir, what does this ordinary congress held in Vietnam mean for the development of regional football?

VFF President Tran Quoc Tuan: It can be said that the AFF 2023 Ordinary Congress was successfully held in Ho Chi Minh City. With recent contributions and progress, VFF has always demonstrated its role as a responsible member of the organization in regional football activities. It can be said that the development of Vietnam football has made an impression on other countries. In his opening speech, AFF President Khiev Sameth emphasized and congratulated the successes of Vietnamese football. This AFF Congress has the presence of special guests including the DFB’s President, the President of the South African Football Association, representatives of the KVNB, representatives of the Royal Belgian Football Association…, this shows the great interest of the developed football countries for the development of regional football. The Congress program has strategic plans and the Council meeting will propose policies to ensure Southeast Asian football has a stable financial source. On that basis, there are sustainable development orientations, helping countries have the opportunity to participate in continental as well as world playgrounds.

– Overall, under the direction of AFF, how has Southeast Asian football developed in recent times, sir?

– Southeast Asian football has had progressive developments. For the first time, 5 national teams entered the 2024 Asian Cup, taking place in Qatar; Three women’s teams, Vietnam, Philippines and Australia, compete in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Young teams have also shown progress in continental arenas.

At the Congress, countries sent congratulations to Vietnam, the Philippines and Australia on their participation in the 2023 Women’s World Cup. In particular, Australia made a strong impression when completing the organizational work for the first time co-hosting the World Cup.

It can be said that in recent times, under the leadership of President Khiev Sameth as well as the executive committee, AFF has had appropriate plans, adapted to the circumstances to overcome many challenges, especially Covid-19 pandemic. This demonstrates the success of Southeast Asian football.

– You regularly participates in running continental tournaments and is currently the Head of the AFC delegation men’s and women’s football at ASIAD 19. This is an honor for Vietnamese football. How do you personally see it?

– When an international football organization like AFC trusts me to run events on the continent, especially events at the Olympics, I am very honored and proud. Through these events, I and the VFF staff learn and accumulate a lot of experience in organizing and conducting major events, thereby making appropriate adjustments and adapting to the development of football. international stone.
