AFF Ordinary Congress 2023: Expectations for the new development of Southeast Asian football

Today (October 1), the 2023 AFF Ordinary Congress takes place in Ho Chi Minh City with expectations for the new development of Southeast Asian football.

The Congress was attended by senior leaders of the AFF, including the President and Vice Presidents of AFF, members of the AFF Council, members of the AFF Executive Committee, leaders and members of AFF functional committees, and representatives of AFF member football federations. The VFF delegation attending the Congress included Vice President Tran Anh Tu, Vice President Nguyen Trung Kien and Secretary General Duong Nghiep Khoi. VFF President Tran Quoc Tuan attended the Congress as an AFF Council Member.

The Congress was honored to welcome the participation of representatives of the world football federation FIFA, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), leaders of international football organizations, including the President of the DFB, the President and General Secretary of the South African Football Association, General Secretary of the KNVB, representative of the Royal Belgian FA…, creating a bond between members in the common home of world football in general and Southeast Asian football in particular.

In the welcoming speech to the Congress, on behalf of the VFF Standing Executive Committee, President Tran Quoc Tuan expressed his honor that VFF was trusted by AFF to choose to host the 2023 AFF Ordinary Congress in Ho Chi Minh City. Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan said that in recent years, Southeast Asian football has made strong developments, contributing to elevating regional football on the international football map. VFF is very pleased with the overall progress of Southeast Asian football, including the positive contribution of Vietnamese football. “As the country hosting an important event of AFF, as well as an active member organization of Southeast Asian football, VFF believes that, with the intelligence and enthusiasm of the Congress, Southeast Asian Football South Asia will continue to have new developments, meeting the expectations of fans in the common home of regional football,” VFF President Tran Quoc Tuan emphasized.

Speaking at the Congress, AFF President Khiev Sameth sent greetings to AFF members who were present in Ho Chi Minh City to attend the important event of regional football. In particular, the head of AFF emphasized that the presence of guests from Asian and European football federations and FIFA is a great honor for regional football. AFF President Khiev Sameth also thanked the members of the Congress Organizing Committee for their hard work in recent days for the success of the Congress. The leaders of AFF believes that members attending the Congress will develop their intelligence to come up with appropriate policies to promote regional football to develop even more strongly in the coming time.

After the opening speech of the Congress by AFF President Khiev Sameth, the Congress carried out the contents of the agenda approved at the Congress.

The Congress elected 01 additional position of Vice President of AFF and 01 representative of AFF to join the AFC Executive Committee for the term 2023 – 2027 according to the provisions of the Charter. As a result, Mr. Mariano V. Araneta Jr. – The President of the Philippine Football Federation was elected Vice President of AFF, thereby joining the three current AFF Vice Presidents: Mr. Pengiran Haji Matusin Bin Pengiran Haji Matasan (Malaysia), Mr. Francisco Martins Da Costa Pereira Jeronimo (Timor-Leste) and Ms. Maaike Ira Puspita (Indonesia) completes the senior leadership of AFF, aiming for the great goals of Southeast Asian football in the coming time. Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan – VFF President continues to receive high trust from the Congress, thereby participating in the AFC Executive Committee for the fourth consecutive time.

As the host of the event, VFF has received high appreciation from AFF and AFF member organizations for their thoughtfulness, dedication and professionalism in welcoming delegates and organizing the Congress.
