Coach Kim Sang Sik is determined to debut with a victory against the Philippines
Speaking at the press conference ahead of the match against the Philippines in the Preliminary Joint Qualification – Round 2 for the FIFA World Cup 2026, newly-appointed head coach Kim Sang Sik expressed confidence in the abilities of the Vietnam team. At the same time, he emphasized his determination to lead his players to victory at the My Dinh National Stadium.

“The match tomorrow against the Philippines marks my debut as the head coach of the Vietnam team. With only 5 days of preparation, it’s been a short timeframe, but I’ve endeavored to impart my philosophy and tactics to the players. I’ve noticed that the Vietnamese national team players possess a passion, determination, and hunger for victory beyond what I initially imagined. Of course, there are tactical aspects that need improvement to enhance their performance. I always strive to be friendly and approachable, like an elder brother, to help the players execute the required tasks accurately in each training session,” Coach Kim Sang Sik stated.
The new head coach of the Vietnam national team also added, “Despite facing considerable pressure at the moment, I still aim to win tomorrow’s match with the team. Playing at home, we want to achieve the best result possible and bring joy to the fans.”
The South Korean strategist noted that despite the limited preparation time, the players’ dedicated training efforts in recent days have bolstered his confidence. “It’s evident that the players are putting in a tremendous effort to aim for victory. I hope the whole team will take to the field with that confidence in tomorrow’s match,” Coach Kim Sang Sik expressed.
The match between the Vietnam national team and the Philippines national team will take place at 7:00 PM on June 6, 2024, at the My Dinh National Stadium. Tickets for the match are currently being distributed by the Vietnam Football Federation, with sales available at two direct ticketing points:
