Opening of the 2025 National Second Division Football Tournament: A Lively Start to the Race for Four Promotion Spots

On the afternoon of April 11, 2025, the 2025 National Second Division Football Tournament officially kicked off with the first round of matches in Groups A and B. This year’s tournament features 15 teams, divided into two groups, competing in a double round-robin format for four promotion spots to the 2025/26 National First Division.

Speaking at the opening ceremony on behalf of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) leadership, Deputy General Secretary and Head of the Organizing Committee Nguyễn Minh Châu emphasized that the National Second Division Football Tournament is an important platform that contributes to maintaining and developing football movements across localities. At the same time, it also serves as a launching pad for talented young players to gain experience, sharpen their skills, and gradually assert themselves on the path toward professional football.

Deputy General Secretary and Head of the Organizing Committee Nguyễn Minh Châu expressed confidence that, with the serious preparation of the teams, the active support and coordination from local authorities, and the well-organized efforts of the organizing committee, the 2025 National Second Division Tournament promises to deliver exciting, dedicated, and emotional matches. Moreover, the tournament is expected to showcase improved technical quality, create a highly competitive environment, and make a meaningful contribution to the overall development of Vietnamese football.

This year’s Second Division season will take place from April 11 to June 22, 2025, with the first leg running from April 11 to May 13, and the return leg from May 21 to June 22. The teams will compete in a double round-robin format to accumulate points and determine the rankings. The top four teams will earn promotion to the National First Division for the 2025/26 season, while the lowest-ranked team across the two groups will face relegation.
