Hosts Nam Dinh made a good start at the friendly under-17 football tournament as they beat Germany’s Red Star, featuring Vietnamese nationals, 2-1 in the opening match on July 24.

Quang Khue and Tien Dat scored for Nam Dinh while Dynamo Dresden youth player Duy Hoang scored a consolation goal for the German side.

It was Nam Dinh to dominate the game. They almost opened the scoring after 15 minutes. Tien Dat hit the crossbar.

However, ten minutes later, they had an opportunity to celebrate their first goal. After centreback Duc Thanh failed to clear the ball, Quang Khue fired home the opener.

Three minutes after the half hour mark, Tien Dat doubled the lead.

The German side did not collapse after going 2-0 down. Instead, they raised their performance.

On 60 minutes, Trung Hieu set up Duy Hoang with a neat through ball and the youth midfielder of Dynamo Dresden made no mistakes in firing home.

Four teams, The Cong, Nam Dinh, Laos and Red Star are now competing at the tournament.
