The Vietnamese U-23+3 team outplayed Olympic Malaysia in the opening game of the Capital SH Bank Cup in Hanoi on October 10 with four goals scored by Cong Vinh, Minh Phuong and Anh Duc.

Coach Alfred Riedl lined up three players aged more than 23, Minh Phuong, Nhu Thanh and Hong Minh in the match against Olympic Malaysia. This means that young goalkeeper Vinh Loi had a chance to start the game.

The home fans had to wait until the 16th minute for the first opportunity of the hosts as Cong Vinh was fouled in the penalty box. However, the striker shot over the bar.

Nine minutes later, Cong Vinh opened the scoring after a good work by Quang Thanh, Thanh Binh and Minh Phuong. The striker found the net after a through ball from captain Minh Phuong.

In the 35th minute, Cong Vinh was fouled by Malaysian goalkeeper Mohamed Sharbinee and Minh Phuong took the spot kick and made no mistakes in converting.

In the second half, substitute Anh Duc found the net twice in the 87th and 90th minutes, respectively.

The Malaysian side had a good opportunity in the first minutes with Razali Umar finishing from a narrow angle but in-form goalkeeper Vinh Loi blocked the shot.

After the match coach Alfred Riedl said he was unhappy with the quality of the pitch. He went on to say that central midfielders did not help much in attacks. He said that his men should improve in futurer matches.

After the match, Olympic Malaysia play their final game against Olympic Thailand on October 12, while the hosts will rest for three days before clashing Olympic Thailand.

Three teams Olympic Malaysia, Olympic Thailand and Vietnam under-23+3 are competing in a round robin format with the winners awarded US$10,000.
