Implementation of VAR technology at the National Championship Division 2-2024
The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) officially announces the implementation of VAR technology in two matches of the National Championship Division 2-2024

VAR, known as a modern technology, serves to assist the main referees in making decisions by reviewing contentious situations on video screens. This technology has been successfully implemented in many major tournaments worldwide and has also been deployed in the Vietnam National Football Championship (V.League) since the 2023/24 season, with VAR used in nearly 70 matches up to the current point in time.
However, this marks the first time VAR is being implemented in the National Championship Division 2-2024, specifically in both matches within the finals. This decision is seen as a significant step forward in enhancing referee quality and ensuring fairness in matches, not only in professional football leagues but also in important matches in non- professional and youth tournaments, such as finals or promotion matches.
According to information from the tournament organizers, the implementation of VAR at the National Championship Division 2-2024 has received approval from FIFA, ensuring strict adherence to technical standards when applying VAR technology in matches. With the support of the Vietnam Professional Football Joint Stock Company (VPF) and the collaboration of The World, the broadcasting partner of the National Championship Division 2-2024, the deployment of VAR is currently being expedited and finalized at Ha Tinh Stadium, the venue for the championship.
It is known that at least 8 cameras with standard angles will be set up at Ha Tinh Stadium to facilitate the application of VAR for the two matches. According to the plan, tomorrow morning (June 17th), the tournament organizers will conduct a trial operation of the VAR and OB (Outside Broadcast) vehicles as in a real match, testing the full video signal connectivity between the VAR and OB vehicles to minimize any potential issues during the official matches.
According to the schedule, the first match of the National Championship Division 2-2024 between Bac Ninh FC and TP.HCM Youth FC will take place at 4:00 PM on June 17, 2024. Following that, at 7:00 PM, there will be a match between Dinh Huong Phu Nhuan FC and Kon Tum FC.
The two winning teams will earn the right to participate in the National Championship First Division for the 2024/25 season.
